Job…Career…Hobby?

Job…I manage the office at my family Plumbing and Heating business. Career…I am the mom to an amazing 11 month old little boy, Max. Hobby…hosting parties for the people I love.  I truly love all three of these parts of my life. I like to work, I love being a mom and I guess I have a knack for making a party unique. To me the things I do to make a party special is easy and the ideas come to me naturally, but I guess that isn’t the norm. It never fails that at least 5 people tell me I should go into party planning for a living. Most of the time I think people are just being nice, but then I go to other parties and realize that not everyone has the “eye” to make a table look nice.  I will stand by my response to the kind people who say that, which is “I do it for the people I love”!

Nicole’s - “Neck Tie” Themed Baby shower

For this “tie” themed baby shower I rented sashes that are normally used for chair cover bows. I has my husband teach me how to tie a neck tie and I tied each sash! I also bought fabric, buttons and ribbon from a craft store and used an iron and hot glue to “dress” the square vases in a shirt and tie.  We just used simple blue hydrangeas for the flowers.

Courtney’s “April Shower’s” Baby Shower

This was another fun baby shower theme for a baby boy on the way!  For the centerpieces we bought paper umbrellas and placed them in the center of a galvanized tin vase, surrounded by flowers to match the color of the umbrella. We also filled some rubber boots with white daisies for the table scape.  Favors were hand potted pansies (to go with the spring theme) in mini yellow buckets.

Amy’s “Shabby Chic” Baby Shower

This was by far the most memorable and special baby shower I have hosted. I will always cherish the memories of this shower in loving memory of baby Anna. For my beautiful friend Amy, we put together flower arrangements in all vintage style vases with flowers in her favorite colors, pink and blue. Favors were shabby chic note cards. I made the menus and place cards myself with vellum and hot glued silk flowers. We places a single rose bud on every water glass by poking a toothpick up the bud and placing them on the rim of the glass. Amy was a glowing mommy to be and I know this was a special day for her as well.

Anjali’s - Blue and green Baby shower

I helped host Anjali’s baby BOY shower at her mom’s house. For the table tops we rented some sashes that are typically used for the bow on a chair cover at a wedding and we did a basket weave with them on the tables. Along with vases filled with elegant white flowers. Favors were beautiful white silk scarves presented in blue argyle bags. For every scarf purchased, a book was donated to a child in need.

Blog about what???

Over the holidays my husband Marc and I saw the movie Julie and Julia. Ever since then, he has been bugging me to start a blog about cooking.  I do love to cook, but I couldn’t help but wonder if it was his way getting fed really well, kind of like Julie’s fiance in the movie.

So here I am. I have no idea what this blog is going to be about.  Yes, I love to cook…I love to entertain…I love to decorate…but I am kind of over all of them. I want to find a new hobby. Something I am passionate about … but also doesn’t cost a lot of money AND doesn’t take up a lot of time. Does a hobby like this exist?  I guess my goal and, say, mission is to find this out!

Heather’s “Loved themed” Wedding Shower

For my cousin Heather’s wedding shower we used pink and orange flowers for the centerpieces. We used spice jars as bud vases as the place cards and favors in one! We served homemade chicken pot pie with a heart cut out on the top, along with fresh fruit and a mixed salad.

Casey’s “Day at the Park” Baby Shower

We hosted Casey’s baby shower in my backyard with the casual “park” theme. We had red and white check table clothes. We planted flowers in weaved baskets for the centerpieces. We served the food, picnic style, where we put different salads in Chinese food containers and packaged them up in a white gift bag for each guest. Clean up was snap and everyone loved the simple presentation.

Courtney’s Chic Wedding Shower

We had Courtney’s wedding shower at a local restaurant, which made life so easy! We didn’t have to worry about food…we just made sure the prosecco was flowing!  We had chocolate covered pretzels in a pic box for the favor and had beautiful pink and orange flowers for the centerpieces.

Amy’s “Bridesmaid Working” dinner

I hosted a dinner for my friend Amy who was a beautiful bride! I was a bridesmaid in her wedding and since she didn’t want another wedding shower, I hosted a “working” dinner for her and her other bridesmaids. We had salmon kabobs and couscous. After dinner we worked on some assembly of favors and looked for hair and make-up ideas for the big day!
